A Change (Would Do You Good)

In the blink of an eye, my time at AAB Consulting is over. What was supposed to be a three-month contract turned into 16 months, and all of them have flown by. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

When I think about what distinguishes AAB Consulting from the crowd, the answer comes down to one word: people. Lesley and Mark have created a truly special team at AAB Consulting. My colleagues are creative, curious, hard-working, funny, and deeply caring. It’s not easy to leave them. But when a great opportunity comes up, you’ve got to be bold and pursue it. As of April 1st, I’ll be transitioning to another AAB Group company, FPM, to work as a sustainability consultant.

Sustainability is a topic I’m deeply passionate about. Why? Because all our lives depend on our ability to have a more harmonious relationship with the earth. We’ve got a lot to do, and to be frank, businesses are not prepared for the coming economic and physical challenges of climate change.

You’ve probably heard from co-workers or peers that other issues are a higher priority for a company’s bottom line. Or maybe that your business lacks resources to tackle this challenge (insert “money,” “time,” and/or “staff” here). But climate change is already occurring. It affects your business every day, even in less visible ways than natural disasters or empty supermarket shelves. Spoiler alert: it’s just going to get worse. A 2022 study by LSE predicted that the total cost of climate change damage to the UK could be 3.3% of GDP by 2050. Even the government conservatively estimates that climate change could cost the UK between 1% to 1.5% of its GDP annually through 2045 if temperatures rise by 2°C, which is now likely. While the net zero transition could cost up to 2% of the UK’s GDP, the predicted benefit is 4%. There is a significant economic advantage to addressing climate change immediately. It’s time to embrace change.

Companies like FPM, AAB Consulting, and the wider AAB Group have a key part to play in this transition. Our teams can help you manage change across your organisation, engage with your stakeholders, adjust your business’s operating model to be more efficient and sustainable, comply with regulatory changes, and validate progress along your journey. So, while the challenges we face are daunting, the opportunities are even greater, and we can make sure you won’t face them alone.

I can’t wait to get started.
